How important is the garage door in a home sale?

by Wade Morris Dunwoody Realtor on May 25th, 2012

Our current garage door is rotting, so we got on Craigslist (for free) a “new to us” painted wood garage door that looks in very good shape. I think after a nice coat of paint will look nice, thou I am not sure if its too buyer specific since it to me seems more of an older style. I haven’t replaced the door yet, and today I found (for $150) a used vinyl insulated door which looks like the other doors you see around the neighborhood. So I basically wonder whether biting the bullet and buying this other door will be better than just installing the one I already have in terms of resale? I will be putting the house on the market next year

Spend the money as it is important for resale and with a bad door the new one will cost about 5k so if you can do better then by all means do so

People can live with an normal looking, nicely painted garage door as long as it give your home’s exterior curb appeal. Keep your money.

ANYTHING a buyer can find a problem with they will. If you had a choice between two homes that you liked the same expect one had a bad garage door and all other things being equal, which would you choose?

it is all about curb appeal. Change it out prior to listing.
